The Secret World of Alex Mack Wiki

Danielle Atron is the cold-hearted and sociopathic CEO of the Paradise Valley Chemical Plant and all of its holdings. A woman of pure business, Danielle Atron cares only about the money and reputation she stands to gain in all of her activities, and never hesitates to resort to illicit and possibly illegal measures in order to get her way. A native of Paradise Valley, in her youth, she was described as a "brilliant child", and often times was considered to be "bossy". She is a brilliant mathematician, so brilliant that she graduated high school and attended college starting around the age of 14. It was during that time that Ms. Atron broke ties with her grandparents (the people who raised her). Following the completion of her education, Ms. Atron went to work for the consortium that bought the Paradise Valley Chemical Plant, working her way up to CEO, and de facto owner. It is possible she is the one who convinced the investors in the consortium to buy her family's old land holdings from her grandmother, following her grandfather's death. The land they purchased was used to build the plant's main building, home of the company headquarters and research laboratory. She has a sister (who remains unnamed in the show) who has a child. That child is Ms. Atron's equally evil nephew Carlton Hendy.

As the series opens, Ms. Atron announces her interest in marketing the experimental compound GC-161 for reasons-then-unrevealed. After a truck accident involving a Plant truck with barrels of the chemical on board, she demands that the unknown child soaked in GC-161 during the accident (the one and only Alex Mack) be brought to her, intending to conduct experiments on the child. Ms. Atron's chief of security, Vince Carter is charged with finding Alex, and attempts to utilize truck driver Dave Watt to help him (as Dave is the only one who saw Alex, despite not getting a good look at her). Vince also utilizes other staff to help find Alex, including Gordon "Scooter" Kramer (who is good at analyzing handwriting), when Dave remembered that a scrap of paper fell out of Alex's backpack as she ran away from the accident. After several years of failed attempts to find "the kid", Ms. Atron fires Vince, and brings in Lars Frederickson from the plant's foreign branch in Vienna, Austria to be her right hand man.

Ms. Atron, Vince, and Lars are all known as harsh taskmasters, and many disgruntled staff end up either quitting (as in the case of Gino Lawless when he left to work for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, and Barbara Mack, whose company provides public relations assistance to Ms. Atron), or doing things in their own time that thwart Ms. Atron and the plant's mission (like when chief chemist George Mack creates an antidote formula for GC-161, or when Dave Watt discovers Alex is "the kid", and decides to protect her, having figured out that Ms. Atron wants to hurt and/or kill Alex).

When it comes to the GC-161 project, Ms. Atron intends to market the drug as a miracle weight loss drug. The chemical was first formulated by Charles "Chappy" Furnell in 1978. He tested the chemical on himself, discovering its weight loss potential, but also noticing some weird side effects (similar to Alex's powers). This early rendition of the chemical was not as strong, and the powers it created wore off with time. It is also believed that it did not have the power to alter Human DNA at that point in its development. After several men from his project ended up disappearing into thin air (believed to be killed by Vince's security force), Chappy goes into hiding, leaving the plant for good. Other researchers over time end up involved with the project, including George Mack, Gordon "Scooter" Kramer, and Annie Mack (as an intern). When Alex and Ray discover Chappy's hiding place in the trees and bushes off of a dirt road on the edges of Paradise Valley, Annie has Alex introduce him to her. He gives Annie all of his files, which expose some of Ms. Atron's deceit. This deceit is easily seen when George, after viewing these documents, tells Annie that he was told that the project was roughly 10 years newer than Chappy's documents actually show, and that many of the men listed in the notes are individuals that he had never heard of. Chappy's documents leave George with more information about the chemical and its intended purpose than had been told to him by Ms. Atron, and became helpful to him when coming up with an antidote formula for the chemical in his own off-work time.

Unfortunately for Ms. Atron, Alex manages to thwart her efforts to find her for several years. Ms. Atron eventually does catch Alex after Louis Driscoll discovers Alex's powers. In a moment of stupidity, Louis calls Ray Alvarado to talk about how cool the powers were. Louis made the call on his cell phone, the signal from which is picked up by Ms. Atron's staff (including Lars), leading them to send security to capture her. Ms. Atron imprisons Alex in a hyperbaric tube, and also captures Alex's parents, George and Barbara. Following Alex's capture, Ms. Atron plans to release the chemical onto the health and beauty pharmaceutical market, despite knowing of its strange side effects, and illegal nature. She also intends to blow the plant up with the Mack family inside it, hoping to destroy all evidence of the project, as she flees the country with her "billions" in earnings to a banana republic in the Caribbean, away from the jurisdiction of the U.S. Government. During the hours leading to the release of GC-161 to the public, Dave attempts to explain to Gino what's going on, and how Ms. Atron must be stopped. Gino initially ignores him (having viewed Dave as a simpleton when they both worked for the Plant). Gino eventually relents after more evidence is gathered (including that Ms. Atron bribed officials). He proceeds to have Federal agents put a stop to Ms. Atron and the Plant. Around this time, Ray and Hunter Reeves manage to break into the plant to try to free Alex and her family, while Louis does what he does best, runs his mouth to everyone in town, hoping to get people to realize what's going on, and to get the authorities to come to Alex's aid. In the end, after Alex and her family escape (with Ray and Hunter's help), Gino arrests Ms. Atron as she is attempting to flee the country. Ms. Atron's whereabouts after that point are unknown, but due to her actions, it's likely she was sent to Federal prison.

Danielle Atron was portrayed by the late Louan Gideon (1955-2014) in the show.
